This portfolio brings together images taken backstage during a performance directed by Armando Punzo at the Arena del Sole.
Behind the curtain, away from the stage and the applause, a more intimate and authentic dimension takes shape: that of the actors of the Fortezza Medicea in Volterra, incarcerated men who have found in theatre a space for personal and collective transformation.
Through the path guided by Punzo, prison ceases to be merely a place of deprivation and becomes a creative space, a laboratory for new identities. In the backstage, where masks are being prepared but have not yet become characters, one can sense the vulnerability and dignity of men who, through art, are seeking a different form of freedom.
This photographic work seeks to reveal precisely that truth invisible to the audience: the humanity behind the scene, the fragile boundary between imprisonment and possibility, between the past and transformation.
